Madness, insanity….Racing sure has progressed. The future of racing is bright and the stars were out all weekend. Imagine the rush felt by riding that track, this is the type of energy that you could feel just watching from the stands.
To make the field of 64, the contestants had to qualify through a two round system of time trails. The first round sent the top 32 riders directly into the finals, but the remaining riders got a second chance to make it in as the final 32 in the field of 64.
The winner of the time trails and eventual 5th place finisher was Mike Day. He rode well all day until the last lap, when he had a bad gate and could not catch up to the leaders. Maris continued his rein at the top with a solid win, followed by Tangent sponsored Sam Willoughby. Third went to Connor Fields, followed by Ivo van der Putten, Day, Tangent rider Tyler “TB” Brown, Nic Long, and Marcus Bloomfield.
The women were not to be out done this weekend, big track, big deal. They rode hard and fast while putting it all on the line. The battle out front was between Mariana Pajon and Laëtitia le Corgville. Taking the time trail was Pajon with Corgville on her heals. In the end the win went to Corgville in the main, followed by Pajon, Arielle Martin, and Merle van Benthem in fourth. Fifth thru seventh place went to Tangent’s Brooke Crain, Amanda Geving, Alise Post. Lauren Reynolds was the final women in the final field of eight.
